A. Spring and summer is a popular time to renovate. It’s definitely the time for us to do exterior work on the roof, chimneys, siding, etc. But with our chinooks or warm fall season, we can complete the interior and exterior work for full renovations. Because we have a full roster of trades and partnered vendors, we can complete projects at any time of the year. Most interior renovations are unaffected by the weather. In fact, lower demand in winter may result in fewer delays depending on the weather.

A. If our clients have the means in their budget to include living expenses for storage and rent for a secondary home or a long-awaited vacation, we recommend this. A full home or kitchen & bath renovation takes a toll on daily family life. We take measures to mitigate the effects of dust, dirt and services like water, etc., but there is always the impact of people and things being in your space. There is stress on children and pets if you have a renovation for longer than two months. Within the planning and design phase, we discuss schedules and possible workarounds for your particular situation.

A. Unfortunately, this is not something JPF permits, due to liability, and conflict of interest in services. We require all our sub-trades to apply to JPF with commercial insurance, license, and Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), including safety reviews and performance reviews of services based on certain criteria. You hire us for our trust and process of partnering with these individuals and companies over the years as experts in their fields. Our material discounts, combined with our cost price, will not only be comparable to retail but also provide warranties and services covered by the JPF team.
A. Permits are required when trades, such as electricians and plumbers, are hired. Once we start doing any structural changes, such as beams and addition or abatement work, the drawings are submitted to the City for approval. With cosmetic remodels, like flooring, paint and ceiling texturing, permits are not required.
A. We provide a 4-phase warranty once your renovation is completed. Our team checks in after 1, 3, and 6 months, and 1 year after all substantial work is completed. The workmanship of all trades has a 1-year service warranty. Individual products each come with their own manufacturer’s warranty. We stand by our warranty and our clients are satisfied with the work and our commitment to reviewing it regularly.

Because of these regular touchpoints, many of our clients reach out to us to refer trades for regular maintenance of their home. This work is paid for by the client outside of the renovation services we provide.

A. JPF Renovations is licensed by the City of Calgary and Service Alberta Prepaid Contractor. We are bonded and hold a 5 Million Dollar Liability insurance and WCB Alberta Clearance. We are well established in guaranteeing our company’s business process and protections.

A. We are a design-build firm! We partner with excellent certified design firms in Calgary to help you if you need them. We also collaborate with architects and designers. For transformative renovations involving changing structure, additions and relocation of plumbing lighting etc., we advise our clients to purchase a full design package and planning process for capturing their ideas with 3D renderings.
A. The source of most home renovation frustration is the unpredictable timeframe. All of our processes — from our pre-construction checklists to weekly project reviews — are designed to keep your project on time and on budget.

Before construction truly begins, we build a schedule around the products ordered and their arrival dates. The design process includes the selection and purchasing of specialty items such as appliances, windows, cabinets. Once we know the longest lead time, we can problem-solve any products that are delayed. Then we schedule our trades for the construction.

A. JPF is a full-service general contractor. We oversee both our own lead carpenters and labourers as well as a team of Calgary’s best specialty contractors (electricians, plumbers, painters, HVAC, drywallers, roofers, etc). Most of our sub-trades have worked for us for many years, and all of them have signed and adhere to the same code of conduct as internal staff. We only partner with professionally licensed tradespeople and are supported by our internal staff for success and safety. We’re serious about our client’s warranty package and will do everything in our power to prove it.
A. It’s a question every homeowner wants to answer. In today’s age we find our clients are quite reno-savvy. Many access HGTV, Youtube and Google before meeting us, so our clients have an idea of what they want. Having a ballpark savings or budget number in mind is something we strongly encourage.

That way, we can help you manage your expectations. Providing us with this information (no, you don’t hand us your money, it’s simply a figure at this point) allows us to give you an idea of whether your wants outweigh your budget or if you could have more items within the scope of the project.

The truth is no budget number can be 100% certain without a unique cost analysis, based on personality, availability, and needs of the home itself as it has aged. If you are going to buy a house, you know how much you can afford, so it should be the same process when renovating a home.
